For years I have heard that songwriters have one of two gifts: music or lyrics. After over 1,000 cowrites, I actually see 7 different gifts (or personalities) and all are listed for you with descriptions after you take this test. I hope this broader view helps you to understand your strengths and the strengths of those you are writing with in greater ways. I encourage you to take this test to give you more clarity on your personal songwriting strengths. I find knowing who you are gives you more confidence in your writing and co-writing.

I have had many people ask me, “Do you ever get really frustrated in a co-write?” The answer is YES! Many times we want to co-write with our best buddies, and that makes sense. But, sometimes people that connect on a social level do not connect on a writing level. It’s completely different!

I have also come to realize that the best co-writing dynamics have happened when there is a combination of different gifts in the room. With this in mind, I would recommend purposely writing with friends gifted differently than you. Feel free to share this test with others to help you find your writing tribe. It will save you frustration, I promise!

Keep writing,

Krissy Nordhoff

3 Reasons You Should Stop Designing for Your Church

Can We Bring A Better Christmas Offering?

I’ve often found Christmas a challenge. But not for the usual reasons. For me, one of the biggest struggles has been played out at church, in worship. We have such a rich heritage of Christmas-themed songs, yet so many of...
